If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it does it really make a sound?

Okay so really what I’m talking about is if a dog barks (we’ll say all day for the purposes of this story) and we aren’t home to hear it does it really happen?  Well according to our neighbors it does.  We thought that by hiring a daytime companion that could walk the dogs and tire them out it would make a difference.  Our other tactic was to move all their kennels into our bedroom so we could close the door and insulate them from all the doors opening and closing during the day.

Let’s just say ignorance is bliss and that’s where we were for almost two weeks until we went into the office last Saturday to pick up a package.  We asked if they had received any additional complaints and they said the neighbor had been continuing to complain.  The property management is being very cool about the situation knowing we won’t be here long and they are thankful for the efforts we’ve made. That being said we were feeling a little trapped.

Heather had a great idea, use our voice recorder to check for ourselves.  So that’s we did over the course of three or four days in different scenarios.  Luckily you can fast forward through the recording while listening to it otherwise that would have made for a long checkout.  What we found was Miles would bark for fifteen to twenty minutes on and off after we’d leave.  Marley and Morgan were for the most part quiet.  So all in all it’s a minor case of separation anxiety but certainly not what it’s been made out to be.  So that’s a relief, not to mention we’ll only be here a couple more weeks.

On another note we had the full fun of apartment living this Sunday morning at 4:45am when a neighbor somewhere in the complex who obviously lost his keys decided to pound on his door for 45 minutes straight. This took the form of various rhythms and volume levels.  Then he and the person he lives with yelled at each other for at least another 30 minutes.  If you are asking yourself why we didn’t do anything, a couple reasons:

  1. One of his closer neighbors confronted him and significant yelling ensued to no avail.
  2. Almost anyone in Florida can get a carry permit so when in doubt stay out of it.

The bars down here close at 3am so that’s why it was so late I suspect.  Ah the fun of shared wall living. Not the first time we’ve heard these neighbors having animated discussions.  Here’s a picture of Miles and Morgan from tonight.

Notice Miles' vest, more about that tomorrow.

notice how Morgan is almost in the closet, there's a reason.
